How To Correctly Clean Your Belly Button Piercing

advertisements

If you have a belly button ring, than you know just how important it is to keep your piercing clean. When you first get your navel pierced, the piercer will always tell you to clean the piercing at least once a day and to keep it from being exposed to dirt or debris.

There are a few different ways to clean a belly button piercing which will help to prevent infection. The most common way is to use a mild soap and water. This can be the same soap that you use on your hands, but a dye and fragrance free soap is best.

Gauging Ears

You need to start out by rubbing soap gently around the piercing making sure to cover the barbell and wiggle it back and forth just a bit to make sure that you do not miss any spots. If there are any dry parts on the barbell you must be sure to completely clean them off as a build up can lead to infection.

Once you have cleaned the area with soap, you just have to rinse off all of the soap being careful not to pull or tug at the piercing and making sure to completely rinse any soap that may have gotten into the pierced hole.

After rinsed, dry with a clean towel. You should not use a paper towel or Kleenex as these can leave behind particles and pieces. Once dry, be sure to cover the piercing with a loose shirt to help keep out any unwanted matter.

A fresh piercing is like an open wound. You do not want anything to get into it as this can lead to infection. It should be kept clean, dry and covered to allow for the best healing possible.

If you clean your piercing, and notice a white or clear liquid that is at the opening, this is normal and means that your piercing is healthy and healing. If the liquid is green, or yellow, this could mean infection and you should keep it very clean and watch for worsening symptoms of infection.

A belly button piercing can take up to a year to fully heal so be patient before attempting to change your belly button ring. Changing your ring too soon can allow for bacteria to enter the wound. Before you change your ring, you should always feel and make sure that your current belly ring is not sore or tender at all.

Belly button rings are the most common piercing and have gotten more and more popular in the last few years. It is always important to go about getting a belly button piercing the right way, through a professional in a clean safe environment. Remember to clean a new piercing at least once a day.

Your Teenage Daughter: Belly Button Rings and Tattoos

advertisements

If you have a teenage daughter, you've probably encountered a whole laundry list of issues that you had never even considered. Living in this day and age is difficult enough as an adult, but kids really have it hard. Peer pressure isn't new and, in reality, it hasn't changed a lot over the years. Instead, the issues facing kids today are different; no less difficult, but not nearly the same as what you may have encountered when you were a kid.

The issue of how to deal with a teenager is a story that has been written millions of times. You can find books, articles and seminars that purport to teach you how to deal with the hormone-filled youngster that is living in your home, but nothing aside from living through it (and subsequently dealing with the issues) is going to help.

Gauging Ears

So, what are some of the things you might expect to deal with in the upcoming months and years? Well, that's hard to say, since each child is different. However, suffice it to say that the primary issues will be things that aren't at all different from the things your parents dealt with when you were a kid - attire, constant phone chatter and dating are sure to be on that list. But what do you do if your daughter presents you with the fact that all of her friends are getting tattoos and belly button rings?

See now, you hadn't even considered belly button rings when you set out on this whole parenting adventure, had you? The most important thing is to remain calm; if you flip out, your daughter is going to run out and get a belly button ring the first chance she gets. In all honesty, you should consider the implications of this act. After all, belly button rings are far better than tattoos, which are permanent. In the end, you have to decide how to handle this, but don't say we didn't warn you if you suddenly start considering belly button rings for yourself!

Navel Rings - Belly Button Piercing

advertisements

There was a time when belly button piercing was completely unacceptable in western culture. During the mid nineteen nineties, however, something happened that changed the way the world saw naval piercing. It is difficult to say where it began, but several role models had a strong influence in the culture change. Naomi Campbell and other top models began flashing cute piercings and were seen on the ramp with naval rings. Around the same time a hit music video with Aerosmith, in which his girl gets a belly button piercing, made naval piercing even more popular with the young crowd.

Whether it was those key events or not, the world was beginning to accept the concept. Today, it is no longer taboo to get your belly button pierced. Many girls get their piercings as early as age fifteen. Belly pierces are now as common as earpieces and are not looked down upon as much as they were in the past. The fact that Wal-Mart even has naval rings for sale openly signifies the death of the stigma attached to naval piercing.

Gauging Ears

It is really amazing how the popularity of belly button rings has grown over the years. It is not uncommon in the USA as well as other western nations to see young girls with belly button rings. More and more girls are going to salons to get their pierces. Especially in the summer season, girls flock to get pierces or buy new naval rings. The stigma has been replaced by a certain fascination with the small flashy things.

Rings come in a variety of shapes and sizes. Barbells, rings, dangling rings, flexible belly button rings and much more are now available. Just like any other kind of ring, you can buy them in almost any kind of material. The most popular material is sterling silver. However, some other popular materials include plastic and hard rubber. Plastic is popular because it can be dyed any color and even comes in glow in the dark.

Belly button rings in higher end precious metals also exist. It is not uncommon to find belly rings in jewelry shops made out of gold and platinum, sometimes with precious stones set into them. Flashy rings for rich girls may include diamonds or rubies. Some girls prefer studs. Other girls prefer something a little more extravagant. Chandelier belly rings are large dangling rings made for the shock effect. While the fashion continues to grow so does the number of jewelers who have caught on to the idea and are adding to the variety.

Belly Button Rings Can Be Easily Hidden From View

If you are pondering getting a piercing, there is lot to consider that could ultimately affect your decision. Not only should you be aware of all the complications and infections that can occur, but you should also consider the implications in other areas of your life. Before you move forward, be sure to find out whether or not your employer or school has a policy against it. It will often depend on whether or not you are in a position that deals with clients. You could also consider getting a piercing that is easily hidden from sight. Belly button rings are an example of this and should enable you to move forward without anyone having to know about it.

If you do decide to wear belly button rings to work, make sure that your shirt is not too tight. Sometimes just being able to see the outline of the jewelry under your shirt is enough to upset your employer or their customers. There are also options such as clear retainers that allow you to wear your piecing to work without it being seen. This type of thing probably works best for a tongue piercing, though you should still be careful that your speech remains unaffected while in the workplace.

Gauging Ears

As with belly button rings or any other piercing, you must be extremely careful to take excellent care of it. A fresh piercing needs plenty of attention, including regular cleanings. Try to clean out the area and jewelry at least twice a day with rubbing alcohol. This should help you avoid a painful infection. Signs of an infection include redness, swelling and drainage. If you find yourself with a worsening infection, be sure to get it checked out with a doctor. They should be able to help you heal the area within a few days to a week.
